Project in Brief : The foundation comprised of a RCC raft (13.5m dia.X1.5m thick) and a RCC pedestal (11.5m dia.X 5.9m high). The top surface of concrete pedestal is subjected to a sustained temperature of 450o C. A total of 800 cum. of concreting was pumped in, in 73 uninterrupted hours.
Intake well cum pump house was designed to accommodate four vertical submersible pumps, each of 250-cum./ hour capacity. The location of the pump house was governed by the water level in the reservoir of the dam on the river Tungabhadra. The diameter of intake well was 7m and the height was 23m. The pump house was 7.4m X 7.4m X 6m in height.
The Approach Bridge from shore to intake well had six spans of 30m each. The bridge and its piers were in structural steel with RCC pedestals and foundations below. The walkway deck pre-cast RCC slabs have been provided. The bridge carries water pipeline and a trolley track.
